Yellow Pipe Wire is one of four Pipe Wires added by BuildCraft, to transmit redstone signals between gates along pipes. The Yellow Pipe can interact with following gate types of BuildCraft:

A Diamond AND Gate interacts with all four types of Pipe Wire to transmit redstone signals. Pipe Wires on different pipe types can be connected via Cobblestone Structure Pipe.
Yellow Pipe Wire can be placed with a simple right-click on a pipe, and can be removed by sneaking and a right-click. About a Cobblestone Structure Pipe the wire can change different pipe types (shown in the picture). For interaction with a gate, the Yellow Pipe Wire needs to be placed on the same pipe block as the gate. Once that is done, following settings are available in the GUI of the gate

If a redstone signal is transmitted, the wire lights up in a glowing yellow.
