Warp is a mechanic added by Thaumcraft 5. In Thaumcraft 5, certain research topics are categorized as forbidden, and if researched, contribute to the players Warp. Typically the items made available by the banned research will also grant Warp when crafted.
Types of Warp[]
There are three types of warp given to the player. Permanent warp is typically given by research, and cannot be removed. Sticky warp is granted by crafting and rarely granted by other activities, and must be removed with Soap. Temporary warp is gained by some mob attacks Eldritch Guardians, as a random chance while being near Tainted blocks, or by eating Zombie Brains. Temporary warp wears off quite quickly, but can be removed instantly with Bath Salts.
Some tools - principally those made with Void Metal - have a Warping effect which contributes to the characters effective permanent warp while used, but this warp is removed when the tool or armor is unequipped.
Once the Sanity Checker is unlocked, the player can examine their own warp. Each type of warp is visible on the warp meter as a different intensity of purple.
Warp Effects[]
The principal effect of having Warp on your character is an increasing chance of Warp events. These include
- Getting an ominous message, perhaps the sound of a creeper hissing or creeper explosion, accompanied by a rapid heartbeat.
- Getting attacked by Eldritch Guardians.
- Being given Blurred Vision debuff.
- Being given the Sun scorned debuff.
- Being given the Flux Flu debuff.
- Being given the Thaumaria debuff.
- Being given Flux Phage debuff. (5 minutes)
- Being given the Unnatural Hunger debuff.
- Being given Deadly Gaze IV debuff (5 minutes)
- Being given Mining Fatigue IV debuff (1 minute)
- Being attacked by a swarm of Mind Spiders
- The unlocking of the Eldritch Ephiphany or Eldrrtch Revelation should other conditions be met.
The Warp Timer[]
In addition to the various ways that they player has to remove temporary and sticky warp, Warp events are also dependent on a timer and will naturally taper off if the player does not engage in any warp gaining activities. This is to prevent Warp intruding on players gameplay experience if they are not actively engaged with Thaumcraft.
Warp events are also disabled by engaging Thaumcrafts "Wuss mode" available via the Config UI.
