The Thaumonomicon is an item added by Thaumcraft 5. It explains all the basics, items, blocks, and information about the mod.
Recipe
A newly created Thaumonomicon
The Thaumonomicon is obtained by right-clicking a Bookshelf with an Iron Capped Wooden Wand. This will consume the Bookshelf in its creation.
Usage
The Thaumonomicon can be simply opened with a right-click. When first created, only a handful of "entries" exist; each entry contains information on the particular topic listed. Further entries must be Researched, which also can allow new blocks and items to created.
Left-clicking an entry will open it, and the escape button will close it. The player can move through the Thaumonomicon by dragging their mouse. The Thaumonomicon can be zoomed in or out via scrolling. A searching function is located the bottom left of the GUI.
Different "tabs" in the Thaumonomicon are for different broad topics. Thaumcraft 5 has four tabs per default: "Basic Information", "Thaumaturgy", "Alchemy" and "Artifice". Often, addons such as Thaumic Tinkerer add additional tabs.

Thaumonomicon entry
The Thaumonomicon is a reference book of all things thaumaturgical. It lists all the discoveries you have made so far and gives you a general impression of how many there are still to be made.
Whenever you successfully research something and use the scroll, it will automatically be added to this book. You can then browse through the discoveries and click on them to be shown more detailed information regarding them as well as any crafting recipes associated with those discoveries.
