The Saw is a tool added by GregTech 5. It is used to craft items (in particular, it can craft Planks and Sticks efficiently) and to harvest wooden blocks and Ice.
Recipe[]
The saw is made from a stick and a Saw Blade. Higher tier and specialty materials may require a Steel or Thaumium Rod in place of the Stick.
Saw Blade[]
The Saw Blade is made from two of the same plates of any tool material.
Alternately, it may be made in an Extruder using a Saw Blade shape. Higher tier materials require a higher tier Extruder to craft.
The Saw Blade defines the tool's durability, speed, and mining level. For a list of tool materials, see Material Properties.
Usage[]
By default, GregTech 5 reduces the yield from shapelessly crafting Wood into Wood Planks from 4 Planks down to 2. The Saw undoes that. When Wood is crafted with a Saw, it yields 4 Planks; when 2 Planks are crafted with a Saw, they yield 4 Sticks. The Saw is required to craft Wood Slabs and Wood Planks (singular). Importantly, the Saw is also used as an early way of acquiring Bolts, which are then used to make Screws.
The Saw can also be used to break blocks like an Axe, however it is significantly slower.
Using the Saw for crafting will consume 200 Durability, while using it to break blocks will consume (50 * Hardness) Durability.
If the GregTech 'WoodNeedsSawForPlanks' configuration is disabled, using a Saw will increase Plank and Stick yields from 4 to 5.
A Cutting Machine can perform almost all of the same recipes as the Saw, with further increased output for Planks when using Lubricant. A Lathe can craft Sticks from Planks.
