Quilt is a lightweight mod loader for modern Minecraft.
Quilt can currently run most Fabric mods, but not vice-versa. Quilt mods can commonly be found from Modrinth and CurseForge.
Background[]
Originally forked from Fabric due to internal disagreements, it tries to differ itself by having a more open governance system and uses Request For Comments for new major additions.
Quilt aims for community, modularity and being powerful with it's tools.
Quilt offers a mod generator, helpful troubleshooting solutions, latest quilt versions .toml file and usage overview/easy to find documentation to get mod authors started along with a forum for further questions, announcements, project sharing or user support.
Quilt requires Java 17 or higher to run. Like Fabric, the Fabric API is required to be in the mods folder. So Quilt has Quilted Fabric API as they offer tools mod authors would use with their mods like Fabric API.
So the mods will likely require them. Also like Fabric the few mods that only require the loader (such as Disable Custom Worlds Advice or mods that don't require particular features of the API which can vary) may be possible but most mods will require the Quilted Fabric API to be included in the mods folder to work (the Quilt Kotlin Libraries are optional, more suited to mod authors then players or unless a mod requires it).
Along with 1.18.2 and above. The game will give the player a warning message if they use the Windows EXE installer (which targets the Mojang launcher) telling them to have 1.18.2 or above.
