The projectors are used to define a build area for the recipes, and must be placed with the panel facing the area to be used. When the first is placed and then right-clicked, a marker will be shown for a short time at the position the second and following projectors should be placed for completing the structure. A layer of empty space must be reserved around the north, south, east, and west sides of the build area. The top and bottom sides of the resulting field have no extra space requirement. The projectors still work, however, when there are blocks between them and this required gap. When the projectors are correctly placed, beams and a transparent highlight will appear showing the field is ready to use. The build areas are cubic areas having odd-count sizes up to 13 on a side by default; the maximum size may be increased by editing the configuration file.

The projectors must be centered both horizontally and vertically relative to the planned field placement at a fixed distance from the field based on its size:
