The Jackhammer is a tool added by GregTech 5 for quickly breaking and smashing any blocks that can be harvested with a Pickaxe. Similar to the Hammer, it also crushes ores and turns Cobblestone to Gravel, but cannot be used for crafting.
The Jackhammer is made from Titanium components, a battery, an electric piston, and a Long Rod. Despite being nominally an HV tool, it can be crafted with components available when other MV electric tools may be crafted.
The battery may be filled with either Sodium, Cadmium, or Lithium, and must be a Large Battery. The battery may be charged or empty. If it is charged, the resulting tool will be created with the same charge contained in the battery.
The Long Rod may be made from any tool material, and defines the JackHammer's durability, speed, and mining level. For a list of tool materials, see Material Properties. Additionally, the Jackhammer improves upon the base material:

A JackHammer made from high end materials such as HSS can instantly break almost any block.
The Jackhammer can be used to break any block that can be harvested with a Pickaxe. It can also break Glass, Ice, Packed Ice, or any Rock-type block. It acts like a Hard Hammer when breaking blocks: it crushes ores, turns Cobblestone to Gravel, Glass to Glass Dust, Ice and Packed Ice to Crushed Ice, and so on. It is not ideal for breaking ores, since it produces only half as many crushed ores as you would get by Macerating the ore. Unlike the Hard Hammer, it cannot be used for crafting.
A Jackhammer must be charged in a Battery Buffer or any electrical machine before being used. Each use consumes EU from the Jackhammer instead of durability. However, there is still a 4% chance on each use to also consume durability, so the Jackhammer still has a limited lifetime, and will break and disappear when its durability runs out.
A Jackhammer with any amount of durability can be placed in a Disassembler to recover some or all of its components.
