The Induction Furnace is a machine in IndustrialCraft 2 that functions as an faster version of the Electric Furnace that is also capable of smelting two items simultaneously. As the Induction Furnace operates, it builds up heat, which makes it smelt faster and use less EU per operation. The Induction Furnace is most efficient when smelting two things at once; it uses the same amount of EU per operation regardless of whether one or two items are being smelted.


The Induction Furnace is created with seven Copper Ingots, one Advanced Machine Casing, and one Electric Furnace.

The top two slots in the Induction Furnace GUI are the input slots; whatever material that is being smelted goes in one of them. The bottom slot in the GUI is the Battery slot; if the Induction Furnace is being used without a connection to an EU network, it may be powered using RE-Batteries, BatPacks, Lithium-Batteries, or Lithium-Batpacks in this slot. The Heat Indicator on the left side of the GUI shows the Induction Furnace's current Heat level. The higher it is, the faster and more efficiently the Furnace will operate. Lastly, the slots on the right are the output slots; smelted materials will be placed there upon completion.

Without any upgrades and starting at 0% Heat, one smelting operation will take approximately twenty-five seconds, and will use 6,000 EU. Without any upgrades and starting at 100% Heat, one smelting operation will take approximately 13 ticks, or 0.65 seconds, and will use 208 EU. While operating, the Induction Furnace will use approximately 16 EU per tick. Overclocker Upgrades can be installed in order to speed up the process, but will increase the EU required. The Induction Furnace's internal battery can hold 10,000 EU; it can be upgraded by adding Energy Storage Upgrade s.

As the Induction Furnace operates, it will build up Heat and gain in speed and energy-efficiency. While receiving a Redstone signal, the Induction Furnace will build Heat passively, even when not smelting anything. This can be used to maintain maximum efficiency and speed for the Furnace at all times, but will cost 1 EU per tick to keep it idling.

The Induction Furnace can handle up to Medium Voltage Energy by default; any more than 128 EU per tick will cause the machine to explode violently. This limit can be increased by adding Transformer Upgrades.

When used in conjunction with Buildcraft Transport Pipes or RedPower 2 Pneumatic Tubes, any material for the input slots needs to come from the top of the Induction Furnace, while anything for the Battery slot should come from the bottom. Output can be taken from the sides of the machine. When delivering material for the input slots, the first slot must be filled completely before the second slot will receive input; this makes the Induction Furnace less efficient when piping material to it.

Fuel/Speed Comparison

A vanilla Furnace uses 200 Heat Units and takes 10 seconds to complete one smelting operation, while an Induction Furnace uses anywhere from 6,000 EU and 25 seconds to 208 EU and 0.65 seconds to do the same.

  • Lava based fuel sources are only 10% as efficient in when used in a Generator. If the Electric Furnace is powered by a Geothermal Generator, it can use the full power of the Lava.
  • The figures for the Induction Furnace assume that both slots are used for maximum efficiency. If only one slot is being used, divide the Induction Furnace Operations by 2 for an accurate figure.
