Usable for Prospecting

The Hammer, sometimes referred to as the Hard Hammer to differentiate it from the Soft Hammer, is a tool added by GregTech 6. It is used to craft items (in particular, it is the earliest way to craft Metal Plates) and to harvest and crush ores and stones.

Recipe[]

The Hammer is made from six ingots, gems, or rocks of the same tool material and one Stick. Higher end and specialty materials may require a Steel or Thaumium Rod in place of the Stick.

The tool material defines the Hammer's durability, speed, and mining level. For a list of tool materials, see Material Properties.

Usage[]

The Hammer can be used to mine Ore and Stone blocks as if it were a Pickaxe. However, it is not as fast as a Pickaxe, mining an Ore block produces one or more Crushed Ores, and mining a block of Cobblestone produces several Rocks of that stone type.

The Hammer can also be used as a weapon. It deals slightly more damage than a Sword, however its durability depletes faster and it cannot be swung as fast as a normal sword (entities hit by a Hammer have double the normal invulnerability time). The Hammer also deals double damage to entities with 'Golem' in their name.

Prospecting[]

The Hammer can also be used to prospect for ores. Right-clicking on a Stone block will select a number of random blocks in an area behind the target block, check what they are, and return a message to the player of what was found. The range of the prospecting and the number of blocks checked are based on the quality of the Hammer material. Possible messages include:

  • There is Lava behind this Rock.
  • There is a Liquid behind this Rock.
  • There is an Air Pocket behind this Rock.
  • Material is changing behind this Rock.
    • This indicates either dirt, gravel, or different types of Stone
  • Found traces of [Ore name] Ore.
  • No traces of Ore found.
