The Fluid Pipe is the GregTech 5 way to transport fluids. GregTech's Fluid Pipes may have terrific fluid throughput compared to other pipes, but are subject to several unique mechanics.

Recipe[]

Fluid Pipes can be made from Wood, Copper, Bronze, Steel, Stainless Steel, Titanium, or Tungstensteel, in Tiny, Small, Normal, Large, and Huge sizes. Wood Fluid Pipes do not have Tiny or Huge variants. Each larger size has twice the capacity of its predecessor. The largest possible pipe, the Huge Tungstensteel Fluid Pipe, has a throughput of 48000L/sec, or 2400mB/t.

Small, Normal, and Large fluid pipes can be made in a Crafting Table.

Tiny and Huge fluid pipes may only be made in an Extruder and thus cannot be made from Wood. The Extruder may also be used to make all other sizes of fluid pipes.

Usage[]

It is possible to attach Shutter Modules, Electric Pumps, and Machine Controllers to Fluid Pipes to control the flow of fluids inside. Additionally, Plates and Foils can be attached to close sides of pipes, ensuring they do not connect on those sides.

Every pipe has an internal tank equal to its listed per-second transfer capacity. Fluid can be inserted into them as if they were tanks, or by pumping it out of an adjacent tank, usually with an Electric Pump. Four times per second, the Fluid Pipe will attempt to transfer half of its stored fluid to adjacent tanks or pipes, spread evenly among all possible outputs. Filling a row of machines with Fluid pipes will fill half into the first machine, a quarter into the second machine and so on. Fluids can 'slosh around' in pipe runs, significantly reducing their effective throughput. This can be counteracted with Pumps or, more commonly, Shutter Modules.

Not all Fluid Pipes can transport all Fluids. Wooden Pipes cannot transport Gases; the gases will vent out. Venting gases can damage players, especially if the gases are very hot or cold. Additionally, all pipes have a listed heat limit. If a fluid hotter than the pipe's heat limit enters a pipe, the pipe block will be replaced with a block of Fire. Even if a pipe can transport a fluid of a given heat, it may not be safe to touch. Pipes containing extremely hot or cold fluids will deal significant damage to entities that come into contact with them. If you have Forge Multipart, it may be a good idea to place Multipart Covers on GregTech Pipes containing dangerous fluids.

For identification purposes, Fluid Pipes can be painted using IndustrialCraft 2 Painters.
