The Blocking policy is a policy that describes how and when staff members should use blocking abilities to keep the wiki clean and safe.
Reasons for Blocking[]
Vandalism[]
Vandalism can be defined as a deliberate attempt to damage the wiki, made in bad faith. We can identify a few types of vandalism, based on the goals and targets of the vandal's edits.
- Accidental vandalism: Although vandalism is defined as "a deliberate attempt to damage the wiki", sometimes it's hard to tell if a contribution, especially one made by an unknown user, is made in bad faith or in good faith. It's always better to assume the best in a user, so these should be simply reverted and the user should be given a warning if possible.
- Juvenile (or Minor) vandalism: This sort of vandalism includes, for example, changing a random word on a page to "dick," or "Mike is cool." The vandal may be a child, or may just be having a bad day and wanting a snicker—they are in the same sort of position as someone who scribbles something onto a bathroom stall, which is something we have all done at some point in our lives. Ultimately, a short ban is statistically likely to stop the user from vandalizing again.
- Bot vandalism: This vandalism includes vandalism done by user that is likely a bot, often linking to scam sites. For example, they may create a new page with something like
[http://www.suspicioussite.example.com CLICK HERE FOR CHEAP VIAGRA]Fortunately, the AbuseFilter, ConfirmEdit, AntiBot, etc, extensions are likely to stop this sort of vandalism from occurring, but it is possible that a bot or two may break through the restrictions. - Aggressive vandalism: This vandal is aggressive! They vandalize the most used templates, the most viewed pages, and they very likely vandalize a lot more than one page. This user intends to harm the wiki, and they probably know a thing or two about wikis. They may be upset former editors, or may be a rival, but regardless they need to be stopped without a minute to lose. The FTB Wiki has not really had an issue with this sort of vandalism, but it is still possible.
Violation of username policy[]

Users with misleading, disruptive, offensive, or promotional usernames as defined by the username policy are subject to an immediate block. Users blocked under this policy may appeal, provided they change their username as detailed in the username policy.
