Familiars are creatures from the Witchery mod. These animals can assist in performing witchcraft within Witchery, like curse removal, brewing certain potions, and amplifying brew effects. There are three types of Familiars, Cat, Owl, and Toad. All must be tamed before becoming a Familiar. To turn a tamed animal into a Familiar, one must perform the Rite of Binding, with the player and animal in the ritual circle. All Familiars have 50 health, or 25 hearts of health points, and 5 points of armor. Familiars are also immune to damage from fire, lava, falling, and drowning. When a player is bound, if they have a Familiar, 1% of their damage will be transferred to the animal. If the player is nearby to the Familiar, 10% of the damage will be transferred. If a Familiar is to die or be dismissed, they can be summoned again using a Rite of Summoning. Familiars can be dismissed by either sneak+using your hand on them, or killing them. Dismissing a Familiar will void all effects they caused. If the witch or Familiar dies, the other will as well. Familiars are given a random name based on their species.
Cat Familiars require a tamed Ocelot in the ritual circle. This type of Familiar will assist in the art of curse removal, and generally cursing. If a witch has a Cat Familiar, all of their curses will be stronger, and become harder for other witches to remove. Possessing a Cat Familiar will also allow them to perform the Curse of Corrupt Poppet. Cat Familiars may also create the Brew of Cursed Leaping.
Owl Familiars require a tamed Owl in the ritual circle. This type of Familiar will assist in the art of flight. If a witch has an Owl Familiar, they will be able to control the Enchanted Broom smoother. Owl Familiars also allow witches to create the Brew of Bodega.
Toad Familiars require a tamed Toad in the ritual circle. This type of Familiar will assist in the art of brewery. If a witch has a Toad Familiar, when they create a brew in the Kettle, there is an additional 5% chance that they will produce an extra brew. Brews that are used will have stronger effects, or larger areas of effect, if the witch has a Toad Familiar. The Brew of Sprouting and Brew of Thorns will produce slightly larger plants. The Brew of Vines will allow for more horizontal traversal. Toad Familiars also allow witches to create the Brew of Frog's Tongue.
