The Composter is a block added by The Vegan Option. It is used to create Compost and Rotten Plants.
The resulting item is determined by ratio of "green" items and "brown" items in the composter, based on the carbon/nitrogen ratio used in real-world composting. In this style of composting, materials rich in nitrogen are called brown, while materials high in carbon are called green. In layman's terms, dry materials are called brown, and moist materials are called green.
The Composter has 27 item slots, in which items cannot stack. These slots are used for both input and output.
When in the Composter's GUI, the color of each item's name in their tooltip will be changed to green or brown, depending on its registered "color". If it is not colored, the item will not be able to be placed in the Composter.
The Composter's speed is determined by its temperature, where a higher temperature will compost faster. The temperature of the Composter is effected by the green/brown ratio, the fullness of the Composter, and when it was last tumbled. It can be tumbled by pressing the tumble button in the GUI, or by sneak-using the block with an empty hand. Tumbling it will decrease its temperature at first, but later increase the temperature. It is recommended in the GUI to tumble twice each Minecraft day for maximum efficiency. Its temperature can be seen on the front face of the block. Its temperature and progress can be seen in the GUI and with WAILA. The temperature is written in Celsius.

Default materials[]
Additional materials can be added by mods using The Vegan Option's API, but these are the materials added by TVO by default. Along with all of these, which are explicitly defined, any non-meat food item is marked as a green material.
Blacklist[]
Because of meat's poor composting abilities, all meat is blacklisted from being composted. This includes any food that is marked as wolf food, fish, or is registered in any meat-related Ore Dictionary entries.
