The Chainsaw is a tool added by GregTech 5 for harvesting blocks that can be harvested with an Axe or Shears. It is also usable in crafting recipes that require a Saw.
Recipe[]
The Chainsaw is made from Stainless Steel, Titanium, or Tungstensteel components, a battery, a motor, and a Chainsaw Tip.

The battery may be filled with either Sodium, Cadmium, or Lithium, and must be the correct size for the voltage tier of the tool. The battery may be charged or empty. If it is charged, the resulting tool will be created with the same charge contained in the battery.
Chainsaw Tip[]
The Chainsaw Tip is crafted with four Steel Plates, two Steel Rings, and two of the same plates of any tool material. It is used to craft all tiers of the Chainsaw.
The Chainsaw Tip defines the tool's durability, speed, and mining level. For a list of tool materials, see Material Properties. Additionally, the Chainsaw improves upon the base material as follows:
- LV Chainsaw: 2x Mining Speed
- MV Chainsaw: 3x Mining Speed, 2x Durability
- HV Chainsaw: 4x Mining Speed, 4x Durability
Usage[]
The Chainsaw can be used to break any block that can be harvested with an Axe or Shears. This includes most kinds of Leaves, which will drop the leaves as an item when harvested. It may also be used to harvest Ice or Packed Ice, dropping the block as if harvested with Silk Touch. If the `timber_axe` option is enabled in GregTech's configuration, when used to harvest any kind of Log, it will also harvest a connected line of logs vertically from the harvested block.
A Chainsaw must be charged in a Battery Buffer or any electrical machine before being used. Each use consumes EU from the Chainsaw instead of durability. However, there is still a 4% chance on each use to also consume durability, so the Chainsaw still has a limited lifetime, and will break and disappear when its durability runs out.
The Chainsaw can also be used in place of a Saw in any crafting recipe that requires one. Crafting with a Chainsaw consumes EU with a 4% chance of also consuming durability. Using a Chainsaw in a crafting recipe consumes a great deal of EU; the Buzzsaw consumes less EU when crafting and is better suited for the task.
A Chainsaw with any amount of durability can be placed in a Disassembler to recover some or all of its components.
