Dependencies

This mod builds on MinecraftForge

Incompatibilities

Incompatible with Xies Farming Mod

Compatibilities

Barley can be used instead of wheat: any mod that publishes Barley through the OreDictionary. This has been tested with Pam's HarvestCraft.

The Booze mod has modified flower pots, and you can place heather into it. If [[../Mithril/]] is installed, you can place garlic in a flower pot.

Please note that this mod is affected by the Kitchens Mod, changing the way yeast is made.

Brewing is covered in the guides below.

Guides

The following chapters will guide you trough brewing and distilling

Guide to winemaking

Making wine require grapes, yeast, sugar and water - and cheesecloth. There are three varieties of grape in the game: Chardonnay, Valiant and Merlot.

Primary fermenting:
Add 3 buckets of water to the barrel. Then open the interface and place 12 grapes in the top right tile, 8 sugar (11% alcohol) in the top left slot, and yeast in the bottom tile where fuel would normally go. When it's done fermenting, the barrel will hold 5 buckets of wine. Transfer these to an adjacent carboy by adding a cheesecloth in the lower slot, and press the transfer button. (For the transfer button to work, you must have a carboy adjacent to the barrel, one of its 4 sides, and place a piece of cheesecloth in the lower tile.)

Second fermentation:
Once wine is in the carboy, it ferments further, and it must complete fermentation before the wine will be available. Once complete, right-click with 13 empty glass bottles 4 times (or with a stack of 64 empty glass bottles).

You may also try Roman Wine:
Add 12 grapes (any variety) and yeast, but no sugar, and no water to the barrel to make 2 buckets worth of Wine Concentrate (12%). Transfer to carboy. After secondary fermentation, right-click with 26 empty glass bottles to fill them. On a crafting table or crafting box, place 1 Wine Concentrate plus 2 Water Bottles to make 3 Roman Wine (4% alcohol). (Yes, you can drink the Wine Concentrate. But why?)

Making cider

Cider is made from fermenting apples: Add 12 red apples, 4 sugar and no water at all in the barrel. This will fill the barrel: 5 gallons. When fermentation is done, transfer to an adjacent carboy by adding a cheesecloth in the lower slot, and press the transfer button. Once second fermentation is complete in the Carboy, you can bottle 64 bottles (or 5 batches of 13 bottles for a total of 65).

OR transfer from Carboy to distillery for making Apple Jack. No need to wait for the second fermentation if you do this.

Guide to brewing beer

Making beer require wheat, yeast, sugar and water, plus heather, hops, dandelion and cheesecloth. The basic steps in brewing beer are: sprout, roast, mashing, boil, ferment, and: enjoy.

Soaking:
Add 3 buckets of water to the barrel. Then open the interface and place 24 wheat in the top right slot. This soaks the wheat. When the progress bar is done, the output is 24 wet grain.

Sprouting:
“Plant” your wet gain on wooden planks. They will “grow” into sprouts that you can harvest. This will take some time (about 14 game days).

Roasting:
Place sprouts in a furnace to roast them into malted grain. Or roast it again to get dark malted grain.

Mashing and sparging:
Add 3 buckets of water to the barrel, then place 24 (dark) malted grain in the top tile. Wait for the progress bar to finish. Malted grain makes "Sweet Wort", and dark malted grain makes Sweet Dark Wort.

Place cheesecloth in the bottom tile, and press the transfer button. (The button will only work if a brew pot is adjacent and empty.)

Boiling:
Once the wort is in the brew pot, add 4 buckets of water. Then right-click to open the GUI and place one piece of coal to the bottom slot. But also, decide what beer you want by adding a “bittering agent” in the top right slot, like this:

Ale: add 4 dandelion (yellow flowers),
Beer: add 2 hops,
Scotch beer (aka heather ale): add 2 heather
Irish Stout: this requires Sweet Dark Wort, but it also uses 2 hops,

Once boiled, transfer your (Dark) Wort back to the barrel with the transfer button.

Primary fermenting:
Start fermenting the wort by right-click the barrel and place yeast in the bottom tile, and sugar in the top left tile. The yeast and sugar will be consumed and it will start fermenting right away.

Ale: no sugar (2.5% alcohol)
Beer: 5 sugar (4.5% alcohol)
Scotch beer (aka heather ale): 6 sugar (5% alcohol)
Irish Stout: 5 sugar (4.5% alcohol)

Once the progress bar is finished, your wort will be (almost) beer.

Second fermentation:
Once in the carboy it will also progress before being finished beer. Once complete, right-click with 13 empty glass bottles 4 times (or with a stack of 64 empty glass bottles).

Guide to distilling

You can make whisky, brandy, scotch, rum, vodka and apple jack in the distillery.
Once you have added beer or wine or Mash (Rum, Vodka or regular) to the distillery, add fuel (more than one coal) to the fuel-slot - wait - cheers!

Whisky: distilled from one batch of beer, ale or stout for 8 bottles - or one batch of Mash for 16 bottles.
Brandy: distilled from one batch of any wine (16 bottles)
Scotch: distilled from one batch of heather ale (8 bottles)
Apple Jack: distilled from one batch of Cider (you get 12 bottles)
Rum: distilled from one batch of Rum Mash (16 bottles)
Vodka: distilled from one batch of Vodka Mash (16 bottles)

certain mod packs will have removed the process

Mash:
When transferring sweet wort to the barrel from the brew pot, place 24 malted grain (instead of hops, dandelion or heather) in the top slot.
This ferments into Mash.

Transfer to a distillery.

Rum Mash:
Making rum require sugar and water. Simple! Place 30 sugar in a barrel, in the top right slot (not the "sugar" slot). Fill the barrel with 5 buckets of water, and place yeast in the bottom slot.
It will ferment to become Rum Mash.

Transfer Rum Mash to a Distillery (you can transfer trough a Carboy).

Vodka Mash:
Making vodka is a little more involved, and require baked potatoes, malted grain, yeast and water. Place 12 baked potatoes in a barrel in the top slot. Place 1 malted grain or dark malted grain in the "sugar" slot. Fill the barrel with 5 buckets of water and it will soak. When the progress bar is complete, add yeast to the bottom slot.
Another progress bar as it ferments into Vodka Mash.

Transfer Vodka Mash to a Distillery (you can transfer trough a Carboy).
